SFDC (Sustainable Fashion Designers Certification) is a concept project proposing an expanded role for fashion designers in addressing environmental and systemic challenges within the fashion industry. The project introduces a manifesto advocating for the integration of eco-literacy, and circular design principles into the competencies of contemporary fashion designers.
The framework positions designers not only as creators of aesthetic products, but as key agents capable of influencing material choices, production systems, and consumption patterns. SFDC explores the possibility of a certification structure that embeds sustainability knowledge — including responsible material selection, environmental impact awareness, and regenerative design approaches — within both design education and professional practice.
As part of the project, a mock-up website was developed to communicate the certification concept and manifesto, accompanied by a portfolio journal documenting research references, design reflections, and visual explorations. The project reflects an early investigation into how design frameworks and knowledge systems can support more responsible and resilient fashion ecosystems.
